St. Michael's Catholic Church Being the center of the parish, Gyobingauk town is about 150 miles north of Yangon city. It is situated at the Yangon-Pyay Highway. Transportation is good and can be reached both by train and by car.
This Mission is an old mission being established in 1890 by Fr. John Baptist Eugenus (MEP). The Church was blessed in 1915. As many as 25 Priests have passed through serving here. There are about 92 villages with 25 out-stations. There are 5000 Catholics. They are all ethnic Kayins.The Boarding has been running since the 1960s. Many people were trained and educated from this Boarding house. There are 5 Catechists, 2 Religious Sisters and 1 priest giving their services in the Mission and Boarding. |
