Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (Nyaunglebin Parish) Nyaunglebin is located 98 miles north of Yangon along the main road to Mandalay city, the second capital of Myanmar. In this small town the French Missionary Fathers (MEP) opened a Mission in 1902. There are about 10 villages making up this Parish. Previously Hpa-do and Kyauktaga/Pe-Ngwe-Gone parishes were under the main Parish of Nyaunglebin. The people are Kayin. Most of them are farmers. Some do hill cultivation. One priest and three religious Sisters are working in this parish. The Mission is special as it is a famous National Marian Pilgrimage Centre. Every year there is a grand Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes with Novena and Masses and special Marian Devotions. It is organized and run directly by the Archdiocese itself. The 103rd Marian Feast together with the National Eucharistic Congress was celebrated on 11-13 February, 2005.
